Callie did a simple experiment this week for Earth Science that illustrates Plate Tectonics.  The frosting represents molten rock and the graham crackers represent the plates, of course.  The first picture is an example of a rift.  This usually occurs on the ocean floor.



The second picture shows how volcanos form.  One plate is pushed under another, when it breaks down, pressure forms and volcanos are the result.  



These graham crackers show two plates immediatley after an earthquake.  



This is an example of how mountain ranges such as the Himalayas are formed.  Two plates pressing together and forcing the land upwards.
